Character Name: Ceiro Ryan
Age: 32
How long They've Been in the Deck: Most of his life (Deck Baby), with a few stints off-deck.

History: Ceiro’s parents were a part of a long line of Deck born Hearts. As such, when he was born, he was but the latest in a long line of traditions. His father was a firm man, who believed a well rounded man was both versed in culture and martial arts. As such, from the time he could walk till the time he gave up weapons, Ceiro was a trained fighter. His mother saw to his education, with a gentle but firm hand. He was a good child, for the most part, though he was often in Athena’s company, and quick to help cover her in the worst of situations (which, as kids, couldn’t be that terrible, right?)
Eventually he would fall in love with Athena, only for his heart of be broken when she left the Hearts to become a Spade. At the time he felt betrayed, as if she had turned her back on him personally. As such he took that time to travel, with the permission of his King and parents. Once on his own, Ceiro eventually found himself in Colombia, working with a small village of Indigenous people to help expand their lands and human rights within the Colombian government. He wrote home often to his parents, feeling as if the work was worth it. Eventually, they too would come to Colombia, inspired by him and eager to meet the people he had become such close friends with.
During his time there, Ceiro was quick to use guns and violence to defend his stance and to help protect the people he cared for. His father, while he believed only in doing violence when necessary, was quick to support his son’s choices. Together they forced both rebels and the military back, giving the villagers a little more land, and protecting their rights. The two would travel into town to gather seeds for planting and purchase medicines for the village. For several months this went on without much change, and before Ceiro knew it, he had passed two years outside the Deck; made his share enemies, and forgot his woes.
His stay in Colombia came to an abrupt end when the leader of a Rebel group grew tired of the spreading influence Ceiro was having on the people around his village refuge. He sent his men into the village, demanding that Ceiro left before the rebels made him. When he refused, he and his father both promising to defend the village with their lives, the rebels opened fire. The events that followed were hazy. His vision blurred into a series of traumatic events that he will never forget in his life: the image of two children being gunned down with their mother, the village leader being shot execution style, and his father being dragged beyond a truck as it sped away, and his mother hanging naked from a tree.
When he returned to the Deck, he was injured physically and emotionally. He often blamed himself for the deaths that occurred that day. It was an experience that forced him to rethink how he approached violence- even in the defense of others- and questioned much of his past. Putting away his weapons, Ceiro eventually vowed to never lift a hand against another soul again, focusing on alternate ways to resolve conflict.
In his time back, Ceiro eventually came about to care for Athena’s younger sister. While they were just friends, as she grew older, and with Athena’s unknown help, the two eventually fell into a relationship. He would gradually move up the ranks to stay with her, to be with her completely. And despite his occasional wanderings and different partners- Judith would always occupy his thoughts. As he rose through the ranks, he challenged his opponents to non-violent matches, he was particularly fond of chess.
As time passed, he and Judith would marry, helping him move past the pain of Athena’s marriage to David (which had caused him a great deal of pain, enough that he refused to speak to Athena for some time). He eventually ascended to King, as well.
In the course following years, Judith and Ceiro welcomed their first born to the world, Tristan. But as the last year (2012) progressed, Ceiro became increasingly ill. He was eventually forced to resign his rank and leave the Deck in order to seek treatment for the poisoning he was suffering at the hands of a malicious Heart, Laureline Novak.
Personality: Ceiro grew up quite a bit in his role as King of Hearts. When he'd started, he often tried to be as little hands on as possible, unconvinced he was fit for the role. That was a doubt that plagued him through his entire stint as King, however.
To know Ceiro, really, was to know that he was a man that often struggled with his own morals and place in the Deck. He was a man who firmly believed in non-violence, even when others proclaimed him foolish because of it. He felt that too often violence only ended in more violence, and that while peaceful action might be slower- was the better option. This was, of course, brought on by the death of his parents. While in Columbia he and his father took up weapons to defend a village- but that did not save anyone. Most of the villagers, and Ceiro's parents died. This, of course, caused a lot of guilt (and then a falling out with his twin brother, Luis). When he returned to the deck, Ceiro vowed to never make that mistake again.
It is that decision that has formed the base of his personality. Ceiro believes in the power of forgiveness and pacifism that some believe he could be murdered and still forgive his murderer. The hardest thing for him, however, is holding to those values when the people he loves and cares for are at stake. In the last year as King of Hearts, Ceiro often struggled with maintaining his personal values with the needs of the many. He would often sit in his office and seriously contemplate the problems before him, and wonder (if not out right doubting) if his own choices were the best course of action.
But his compassion of pacifism does not mean Ceiro is completely caught up in worry. Like others he experiences moments of great joy and anger. He often tries to temper his anger, however. He is encouraging to those around him, but not a complete push over. He has been known to tell people the hard truth, even if it was done in a soft voice. He does look for the best in people, but he realizes that not everyone is a good person. But mostly, he is happy to come back to the Deck, and happy to be with his son and wife.
Character's Goals/Ambitions: Ceiro has no ambition to be King of Hearts again. He rather thinks the Hearts are well taken care of. Instead, he has decided his greatest wish and goal is to help educate the Deck's children. As such, he has taken over as Dean of the local school and has set goals for teachers and students alike to aim high, and achiever greater.

Appearance: Ceiro is 5'11, with long, wavy brown hair. He usually sports a short trimmed beard, and a bright smile. His eyes are green, and his smile is bright. His skin is slightly darker than the average person of Welsh decent due to his mother's Colombian heritage. He is fit, though at times he can fall on the chubbier side of things. He is not the stunner that some in the deck are, but he happy with is looks. He typically dresses with is hair down and in comfortable clothing. He is, in a two words: very casual. He does sport a couple of old tattoos, however, but they are a bit faded due to lack of proper care.
